Polished Memories

I look back at the journeys that I longed for as a kid
It wasn't enough to have a card with holographic ink on it
It wasn't enough to get a cheap plastic toy from the nearest super store
It wasn't enough to hear the music and see the images flickering on the screen
It was about believing that anything could happen
It was about the life lessons that I learned

Trivial, some may say as they shrug
Others dismiss it as childish or idiotic
But those adventures that I never had
Made me long for the future and the ability to change the world

Some things can be learned from people
Some things can be learned from music
Some things can be learned from food
Some things can be learned from books
But the power to learn and improve comes from within

I learned that I could fight to the ends of the earth for anything I believe in
I learned that with great power comes great responsibility
I learned to do the impossible, see the invisible, touch the untouchable, break the unbreakable
I learned that I will teach people and they will teach me
I learned to believe in myself, not just to rely on people who believed in me or me who believed in people
I learned that people are meant to be there for each other, not to fight or squabble, but to build up each other
I learned to never compromise, not even in the face of Armageddon
I learned that music was the essence of life
Without it, these memories would just be mere images and voices

I'm still never going admit that Toy Story ended
I'm still waiting for my 10th birthday when I become a Pokemon Trainer
I'm still going to love all the songs that I grew up with

It's part of the adventures I never had
It's part of my dreams and hopes for the future
It's part of my inspiration to do the impossible
It's part of me
