Ich Will

He says the words and the curtain falls down
The audience is shown the play for what is really is
Is it meant to astound them?
Is it meant to make them think?
Are they supposed to see?

The curtains raise as the words fall
A jest, one cries out
Impossible, another voice shrieks
A loud voice rings out in a harsh tone
Why?

The curtain is raised and the glare is bright
The audience stares for a moment
The man looks at them, waiting for a response
The performance and the reaction are the same each time

A chorus of chairs squeaking as the people rise up
I don't understand, the first voice says
What should we do?, the second voice asks
The loud voice answers the query
Leave or stay, doesn't matter to him

The audience begins to shuffle out
The minor twitches on the man's face are too subtle
The loud voice comes over and stares into the man's eyes
Who are you?

The man looks into the crowds of people
The man looks above at the ceiling and then down to the ground
The man looks into the eyes of the loud voice

What isn't he?

He is alone with the loud voice.

The loud voice stares back
The sets of eyes are calm and full of pain
They connect and understand

The loud voice rings out
Du hast mich
The other voice echos
You have me

The loud voice yells
Du hasst mich
The other voice screams
You hate me

They stare at each other
The loud voice ends it
Du hast mich gefragt
Du hast mich gefragt
Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab' nichts gesagt

You have asked me
You have asked me
You have asked me and I have said nothing

I end the refrain and the silence echoes

  1. Echoes as if from a deep abyss, from the abyss of the imagined, from the sound that, although imperceivable, is somehow, from some unknown human instinct buried deep within, felt.
Knew you couldn't stay away from writing for long.
